On Friday 20 October 2017, Zambrero, Rise Against Hunger and over 1,700 volunteers who believe in a world without hunger, joined forces to pack much needed meals bound for Madagascar and East Timor at Zambrero’s Meal Packing Day.
Efforts from the five Meal Packing Events across the country as well as Zambrero doubling regular Plate 4 Plate donations on the day saw a record breaking 487,000 meals donated!
In Madagascar, the meals will support children in school feeding programs in the region of Analamango - an area severely affected by the El-Nino phenomenon. School meals attract children to education programs and prevent dropouts while simultaneously alleviating short-term hunger and enabling children to break the cycle of poverty.
The meals shipped to East Timor will support children in orphan homes and vocational training centres in Dili. Meals will also be supplied to a medical clinic in Venilale. The meals packed will support children’s attendance at school, incentivise youths to learn a trade, and bolster clinic patients’ health in order to bring about holistic and transformational development in each of their lives.
